The "The Management of Change" course aimed at library managers/directors, deputy librarians/directors, other senior managers and those aspiring to these positions, from academic and research libraries involved with strategic change.
Participants were to leave the course with:
- kowledge of the context within which libraries need to change;
- knowledge of the theories of change management, processes and frameworks within which to plan, lead and participate in their own institutional change programmes;
- knowledge of the practical techniques of change management;
- a clearer understanding of their roles as managers within the library context.
The course was highly participative. Learning took place through a combination of formal lectures from practitioners and management experts, discussion and sharing of experience, and a large case study which ran throughout the course. Participants were expected to bring their own experience to bear on their learning, and draw up their own action plan for their return to the workplace. All courses will drew heavily on North American and European best practice.
