On Friday 26 and Monday 29 September the Blackboard system will be maintained in order to prepare the launch of the
new student portal (on Tuesday 30 September). During the maintenance the Blackboard system will be available non stop
for all users to minimize any inconvenience.

SPSS 16 is now offered on the student desktops. Output generated with the older versions can be opened with the SPSS smartviewer 15.0. You can find this application under the programme group Office.
Office 2007 is now also offered. Document exchange to Office 2000 and Office 2003 is not a problem, as long as you have the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office. This software is installed on all Tilburg University desktops with Office 2000 and 2003. For off-campus desktops you're advised to check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923505. Office 2007 attachments in the Webmail interface can now also be clicked on. |

| 18 August 2008 Maintenance on student desktops |
 All students desktop at the university campus will get a new Windows installation and applications.
The maintenance is planned in a time frame of three days from Wednesday 20 till Friday 22 August and will take place in the Montesquieu Learning Centre (MLC), the Library, the Internet cafés and several lecture rooms.
During this time frame you can normally make use of a student desktop. However, you could be requested to change of location.
In the library the new image will be installed on Friday 22 August. For that reason the reservation system is blocked and you will not be able to make a reservation. Availabillity of the student desktops in the MLC will be limited on Friday 22 August. Our apologies for this inconvenience. |
| 12 August 2008 Wanted: feedback |
Based upon the wishes of amongst others students, the student desktops are equipped with a new installation of Windows with accompanying programmes, each year. Before this is placed on all computers permanently, we would like to receive your feedback on any flaws in the functioning of the installed programmes. We want to draw your attention that this e-mail is NOT sent by Tilburg University and ask you expressly to NOT respond to it. If you do respond, the sender can use several applications on behalf of you, for instance your webmail. If you already have responded, please change your password as soon as possible. Students can do this via the ICT Service Point. |
| 3 June 2008 New sign on and sign out |
As of 3 June you don't directly sign on to the Blackboard server anymore. Instead, you sign on to an authentication server which settles Blackboard access and takes care that students do not have to sign on separately to the various web applications from the student portal. There is open access to all applications as long as your web browser is open. To sign out, please close your web browser (including all tab pages) completely. Watch the online demo. | 18 April 2008 Improved printer settings in library |
The printer setting on the student desktops in the library will be adjusted on students' requests. This means you can print several pages on one sheet of paper (without black bands).
The printer drivers are installed on Monday 21 April. We do not expect difficulties. However, if you experience any hindrance, please contact the IT&AV Service Desk. The installation of the new printer drivers requires a lot of preliminary work. That is why, for now, the new setting only apply for the student desktops in the library. |

The library is open as study area from 10:00 – 17:00 from 1 until 5 May (Ascension Day until Liberation Day) and on 10 May (Whit Saturday). The library is closed on Queen’s Day (Wednesday 30 April) and on Whit Sunday and Whit Monday (11 and 12 May).
The MLC is closed form Wednesday 30 April to Monday 5 May.

As from February there are 3 Datastream PCs. It's also possible to reserve a Datastream PC electronically via the student desktop reservation system. An additional option 'D_STR' is added under the desktop menu. You can reserve the Datastream PC for two hours. |

| 27 February 2008 Student desktops for notebook use |
One hundred student desktops will be equipped with ARBO-proof notebook facilities, at students' request. They can be found at the Goossens Learning Centre (40), the Montesquieu Learning Centre (10) and level 2 of the Library (50). The student desktops at the Library can be used for studying with and without notebook. The number of student desktops remains the same, yet some of them have an extra facility.

On 23 January the trial run of the student portal in Blackboard will start. The student portal exists of two extra tab pages My Portal and My Portal Extra. Purpose of the student portal is to offer students all relevant information via so-called portlets in one place and preferably via single sign-on. For instance lecture and exam schedules, schedule changes, search facilities in the library catalogues and news flashes. The functionality and layout of the student portal still is amply processed (single sign-on has not yet been realized in this version, but will be carried through as soon as possible). On Sunday 2 December 2007 there will be a clean-up operation of all student accounts. From all students who are no longer registered as a student of Tilburg University the accounts will be removed. From that day on it's no longer possible to use the network facilities of the university. Mailboxes and homedirectories (M-drive) and all stored data will be removed from the student servers permanently. Till 2 December 2007 students have the possibility to secure their data. |

| 28.03.2007: Van Dale dictionaries |
The Van Dale dictionaries Dutch, English/Dutch and Dutch/English have recently been added to the library information sources. These dictionaries can now be installed locally on the student's desktops. Dependant on the Lau's the dictionaries can also be installed on the computers of employees. Advantages of the new version are e.g. the possibility to save settings and the integration of dictionairies in Word.

14.11.2006: Clean-up operation of all student accounts |
On Sunday the 10th of December 2006 there will be a clean-up operation of all student accounts. On Saterday 11 November 2006 the system BSCW will be upgraded to the latest version 4.3. The reason for the upgrade is mainly a technical necessity. During the upgrade the BSCW system unfortunatley has to be taken out of production. Therefore BSCW will not be available on Saterday 11 November 2006 from 9.00 until 17.00 hours. We hope to minimize the annoyance by carrying out the upgrade on a saterday and by warning you in this early stage. We count on your cooperation and understanding! |
